You WANT to bring presence into your daily life, But Then You Run Like Hell: Here’s Why
“Silence is the language of god, all else is poor translation.”
— Rumi
You TRY to bring presence into your daily life, but then you run like Hell. Here’s Why.
You believe in presence. You teach it. You crave it.
So why do you run from it?
Even when the house is quiet and your schedule clears, your mind finds ways to escape stillness.
It plans. It scrolls. It remembers some chore that can’t possibly wait.
To my fellow wellness pros and yoga teachers— I see you, out there teaching presence like a boss:
✨ Guiding your students to breathe deeply
✨ Dropping juicy quotes about peace
✨ Leading epic svasanas and holding space like a champ
But behind the scenes?
You’re booked to the gills, barely breathing between sessions, self-care sliding off your calendar, and your nervous system? Absolutely fried.
Let’s be real—it’s way easier to teach presence than to practice it.
Ever notice how one part of you craves stillness—but the other part bolts like it’s on fire the moment you try? 😅
Today we’re unpacking why we resist quiet—even though we talk about presence and preach peace.
Yes, we all know thinking is a habit (I covered that in a previous episode), but this runs deeper than that.
I’ll reveal 5 reasons we subconsciously avoid stillness, even when we earnestly WANT it in our daily lives—and I’ll share 3 practical tools to come back into presence.
Scroll down to ready more, or better yet, watch the episode to enjoy even more (including a guided immersive meditation!).

Here are 5 reasons you might be unconsciously avoiding presence:
Emotional Avoidance – Stillness exposes what’s under the surface. That can feel raw, so your mind protects you by distracting.
Illusion of Control – Planning gives us a sense of safety. The present moment doesn’t offer guarantees—and that’s scary.
Identity Clinging – Our ego lives in the story of “me.” Letting go of thought feels like letting go of who we are.
Cultural/Societal Conditioning – We’re taught to value doing over being. Stillness often feels like failure—even when we know better.
Nervous System Wiring – If your body is used to chaos, calm might feel foreign or unsafe.
The good news? You’re not broken. Your resistance is wise—but outdated.
Here are 3 simple tools to return to presence:
Relax the Inner Grip – Notice the thought. Don’t chase it. Whisper, “Relax and release,” and shift back to the body. Remember, what you resist, persists. Don’t get entangled with the mind.
Interrupt the Pattern – Choose a different emotional state on purpose. Even 30 seconds of gratitude rewires your circuitry. Feel the state you want to experience and practice being in that frequency.
Be the Observer – Your thoughts are not you. Witness them without judgment. Awareness itself is the medicine.
You don’t need to fix your mind. You just need to stop following it everywhere.
